Don’t Forget These 5 Seasonal Tasks
Whether you’ve enjoyed the winter season or not, it’s almost time to welcome spring. With the new season comes warmer weather, new blooms and — if you’re a homeowner — seasonal chores.
Here are five tasks you should prioritize to make sure your home is prepared for spring.
1. Refresh the landscaping. During winter, many trees and shrubs die back. Pruning them for spring promotes new growth. Grab your pruning shears and cut away dead and damaged parts of plants. If you grow perennials, you can also spend some time deadheading them. A little maintenance goes a long way toward making your plants happy and healthy.
2. Clean out the gutters. Debris gathers in your gutters over winter. If left there, it can clog and damage your gutters and downspouts. As spring arrives, you can clean them out by hand or contact a professional. Regular cleaning can help your gutters last longer.
3. Schedule an HVAC tuneup. Spring is the perfect opportunity to ensure your HVAC system is in working order ahead of summer heat. A professional can check your heating and cooling system for any potential issues, clean it and perform preventive maintenance.
4. Deep-clean the interior. After months of being cooped up inside for winter, your home is likely ready for a thorough cleaning. Tackle chores like cleaning windows, dusting baseboards, wiping down walls, organizing closets and vacuuming and mopping floors.
5. Clean major appliances. Your refrigerator, dishwasher, oven, washer and dryer all benefit from a seasonal cleaning. Scrub your kitchen appliances, and vacuum underneath and behind the fridge and oven if you can. Be sure to sanitize your washer and dryer, and clean out the filters and vents.
Seasonal maintenance can help keep your house tidy and running efficiently, and it’s a great way to prevent major repairs. Get in touch if you have questions about protecting your home with insurance.
